This illustrated talk describes the ups and downs of the life of the Rev Henry Fellowes, as well as exploring the extent of his links with the slave trade.

Having been a Chaplain to the Prince Regent, the Rev Henry Fellowes brought his young family to Sidbury in 1813, little suspecting he would be vicar there for over 50 years. A colourful and much-loved character, he could be seen walking the streets of Sidbury behind two black ex-slaves, quite a sight in 1830s Sidbury. Hundreds attended his funeral as Sidbury’s longest serving vicar, a man of ‘integrity and goodness of heart’.
