The Knapp

The SVA bought the Knapp, an area of 8 acres of mixed woodland and open space from EDDC in 2019, It is being developed by volunteers with Contractors carrying out the heavier work.

Knapp Cabin 1Knapp Cabin 2 The SVA volunteers started work in Summer 2020 to refurbish the area and efforts continue apace. The footpath in and around the wood has been relaid, over 300 trees planted, steps up to Peaslands Knapp have been refurbished, the Pond has been dredged and is holding water, and we have a new metal “cabin” to store our equipment. The cabin was delivered in mid-November, was hoisted by crane over the gate at the entrance, and was then carried, piece by piece to its final location, (unfortunately UP the hill), by the volunteers. It’s now there, resplendent in a forest green colour.

We have found evidence of dormice, using the dormouse nest tubes which we set up in Autumn 2020. During the winter 2021, we will be pruning the trees in the orchard, most of which have not been attended to for several years. All this work is undertaken by volunteers whom we thank very much for their efforts.
