Born in 1924, Richard Beavis came with his family to Sidmouth aged 4. His father was a cobbler and the family struggled especially following the death of his mother when he was 7. His father made it clear that Richard would eventually work with him. He had an extraordinary talent for drawing and sketched on the inside whitewashed walls of the house. Theses were seen by the Reverend Heineken from the Old Meeting who brought him art materials and persuaded the father to let him be trained in London. He became in time a highly successful artist and this is his extraordinary story.
