The SVA was formed in 1846 to protect the landscape and amenities of the Sid Valley
We publish books on topics of local interest, sold through our Online Shop, Sidmouth Museum and local bookstores
We make grants to a wide range of local projects through the Community Grant Scheme
We run events, walks and talks and produce regular newsletters and publications

Talk by Nick Thompson: February 11. 'The Restoration of Locomotive 34010 Sidmouth'

By chance Nick Thompson saw that a loco named Sidmouth was still extant, though it had spent 30 years rusting away in a scrap yard. A phone call led him to join the team restoring other locos. He's now a board member of the group as workshop volunteer and as webmaster. Nick's talk will focus on the Sidmouth loco, from its naming ceremony in the town in 1946, through its working days, and the long effort to bring Sidmouth back into working condition.
