Sidmouth Museum
Our museum conserves much of Sidmouth's heritage. Our volunteers help in many ways and we rely totally on their support.
There are those who act as Museum stewards and interpret the exhibitions and collections. Most records have now been assembled onto computer for instant access. Other volunteers plan displays and mount exhibitions and answer queries. Those with suitable experience assist with administration, current legislation, the shop and fabric of the building.
There are seasonal or topical contemporary exhibits prepared each year; along with permanent displays of Sidmouth in sketches, watercolours, and photographs during the last two centuries. Also traditional Devon lace is featured; and a geological display describes the Jurassic Coast.

The Long Picture.
This is a panorama water-colour of the sea front in 1814, measuring 0.295m x 2.7m (1ftx9ft approx),painted by local resident Hubert Cornish Esq.

Museum curatorial volunteers continue their work and studies throughout the year, but stewards are only present during the Open season (March/October).
A number of volunteers engage in town walks on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or Coast walks on Wednesdays. These walks are for the benefit of residents and visitors.
