Welcome to the SVA

1922 club building  The SVA HQ is now at 12 Church Street

The SVA is pleased to announce it has moved its headquarters to 12 Church Street, Sidmouth - formerly the 1922 Social Club building. Read here

The Sid Vale Association was founded in 1846 to:

  • Conserve and promote the Valley’s Architecture, Environment and Culture
  • Protect and enhance the Valley’s Landscape and Amenities
  • Record the History of the Valley

The SVA Charity works to enhance amenities in the Sid Valley. We:

The SVA relies on volunteers for all its work, but still has to find large amounts of money to provide and maintains these facilities.

Admission is £2-50 for adults; Under 16's and SVA members Free. Visit the Museum website for Opening Times, details of Guided Walks etc.

Please note the Museum is closed for the winter - Re-opens on Monday 25th March 2024.

MUSEUM

Looking for something new to do this year? If you like meeting people and have an interest in Sidmouth history, why not volunteer to be a museum steward. Full training is given. Publications Group

Tamsine’s Diary - the life and times of a Devon Gentlewoman 1808-186. Christine and Rab Barnard wrote this book which had a limited print run and some of you may have been disappointed not to be able to buy a copy. Tamsine was married to John Carslake, both important figures in Sidmouth in the last century. A limited run of 100 copies, with over 160 pages of full illustrations is available from Keats Foundation and is priced at £13.00, plus £5.00 for postage within the UK.

Sid Valley Ring Walk

Sid Valley Ring cover 450The Sid Valley Ring signed 13-mile walking route around the beautiful Sid Valley was created by Sidmouth Town Council and the SVA. Walkers can enjoy our lovely countryside, admire our fine buildings and learn about the rich local history of Sidmouth.
